City of Oulu chooses Vinka Ride for on-demand transport management

Vinka will deliver its Ride fleet management solution to City of Oulu. Vinka Ride will be used to manage Onni on-demand shuttle service.

The goal of Onni is to offer an accessible public transport service to citizens who are unable to use regular public transportation. The service is intended, for example, for people who use mobility aids or elderly citizens who  may have difficulties using other mobility services.

The service consists of 14 routes, where transport is carried out door-to-door according to the customer’s request. The routes are formed around a set of scheduled areas. Onni carries around 5000-6000 passengers monthly. Ride  is scheduled to be implemented on all 14 routes during 2024. The system has already been piloted on three routes, and the experiences have been very positive.

Based on the pilot experiences, Onni’s service supervisor Tarja Mikkola is happy with the system being acquired: “Onni is a challenging service to operate due to its scale and diverse route descriptions. Vinka has proven to be flexible enough for our needs. Our key requirements included ease of use and improving work efficiency. We have been pleased how these aspects are handled by Ride as a product and by Vinka as a service provider. The feedback from the drivers has also been very positive.”
